MSI Unveils and Launches The GTX 1060 6GB With Armor 6GD5X OC Graphics
MSI will be launching a refreshed GX 1060 graphics card that will use a GDDR5X for the 6GB video memory instead of using GDDR5. The actual name being the Armor 6GD5X OC Graphics card has familiar features found on the Armor 6G OC. The refresh variant adds a dual TORX fan Armor 2x more cooling and four display ports, three being DisplayPort 1.4, one HDMI 2.0b, and one DVI-D.
Operating on the new Pascal-based it’s reported to be scale down version with a much larger NVIDIA GP104 chip rather than using the GP106-400 that was used in previous iterations ( GTX 1060), remaining the same is the core count and 1280 Cuda core count, 80 TMUs, 48 ROPs and a 192-bit memory bus. The clock speeds are a slight increase with a 1544MHz base clock and 1759MHz boost clock.
MSI is fully equipping the GTX 1060 Armor 6GD5X OC graphics card 8+6 pin PCIe power connector, meaning you'll need to extra power if you plan on running this graphics card through the rigors of overclocking. The design specs have the new card being slightly shorter but a much denser cooler than the GDDR5 measuring at 276mm by 140mm by 41mm. Much like its predecessors, the graphics card will sport its signature black and white color scheme.
As of now, MSI has not announced price point or timetable as for when the card will be available for consumer purchase. Based on the GDDR5 graphics card pricing which is $275, added features could bump the MSI GTX 1060 Armor 6GD5X price to $290 but don't quote me on that, it's speculative at best.
