Apple Launches the New Touchscreen MacBook Pro, Starting at $2,889
After 15 years of resisting the touchscreen display, Apple has finally given in. At the "Pro and Tell" event, the company has unveiled its first touchscreen MacBook Pro. I mean, who would have thought this would even happen, especially after Steve Jobs once said touchscreen laptops were "ergonomically terrible." The new MacBook Pro's core features are a Tandem OLED "PROLED XDR" display and an M5 Pro/M5 processor.
From entry to premium models, the touchscreen hardware will not replace the traditional clamshell layout with a 2-in-1 hybrid design. Instead, the new MacBook Pro will integrate multi-touch input directly into macOS while retaining a full keyboard and Force Touch trackpad navigation.
So, About That Touchscreen Display
The MacBook Pro design centers on the PROLED XDR display, bringing Apple's dual-stack tandem OLED from the iPad Pro to the Mac platform. The entire panel architecture features an integrated on-cell touch digitizer, engineered to prevent panel damage while keeping the display lid as thin and light as the non-touch predecessor.

Like many of Apple's devices, the display offers a dynamic range with up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, true blacks, and full coverage of DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB. It also has an adaptive ProMotion refresh rate that ranges from 10 Hz to 120 Hz.

To make the touchscreen function on the new MacBook Pro, Apple had to adapt macOS to support direct finger gestures, tap-to-focus, pinch-to-zoom, and scrubber dragging in creative suites, without sacrificing cursor-first precision.
The Component Specification and Platform Architecture
Instead of launching the new MacBook Pro on the base M6 architecture seen in mainstream entry Macs, the touchscreen variants will use Apple's high-throughput performance chip. The hardware specifications are as follows: the 14-inch model will offer M5 Pro/M5 Max silicon, up to 128GB of unified memory, and 512GB to 16TB of NVMe storage, plus 3 x Thunderbolt 5, HDMI, SDXC, and MagSafe 3.

The 16-inch model also offers M5 Pro/M5 Max silicon, 512GB to 16TB of NVMe SSD storage, up to 128GB of unified memory, and the same display ports.
The Availability and Price Point

Pricing starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch model and $3,389 for the 16-inch. Apple treats these devices as dedicated flagship workstations rather than rolling out a tier system. You can now pre-order the new MacBook Pro. Retail delivery and global shelf availability are scheduled to begin on Friday, Nov 6th.
