Here's What You Need to Know About Apple's New Mac Mini Featuring M6 and M5 Pro chips
Apple has announced a flagship desktop, the new-generation Mac Mini, bringing a significant overhaul to the small-form-factor lineup while maintaining its signature 5x5-inch footprint introduced in the 2024 redesign. The new Mac Mini will serve as a launching platform for Apple's 2nm M6 chip alongside an M5 Pro variant. The Entire Silicon Architecture
There are two variations of the new Mac Mini: the entry-level version debuts the M6 chip- Apple's first-ever processor built on 2nm silicon, which in itself represents a major technological step forward for the semiconductor industry.
The M6 chip features a 12-core CPU configuration with 2"Super Cores", 4 performance cores, and 6 efficiency cores. The 12-core GPU includes per-core Neural Accelerators, delivering up to 4x faster AI operations and 2x faster graphics performance over the M4 base Mac Mini. Memory bandwidth reaches up to 170 GB/s across both 16GB and 32GB unified memory configurations.
The M5 Pro Chip is made specifically for the pro-grade workstation. The processor features an 18-core CPU and a 20-core GPU, as well as a third-generation Ray tracing engine. Unified memory support up to 64GB, with 307GB/s bandwidth.
Upgraded Connectivity Options
Both the Mac Mini M6 and M5 Pro models are equipped with updated wireless and networking chips. Wireless connectivity is powered by an internal N1 chip, adding native Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 support. The Retail Price and Availability
Pre-orders are now open to consumers; shipments will begin on September 22. The M6 base model starts at $899 for (16GB RAM /256GB SSD), while the M5 Pro model will start at $1,699. It's worth noting that there is a significant price increase compared to previous entry tiers.
