File-It-Under: Ultraportable Technology!~
You are seeing a bevy of Ultrabooks popping up on the market lately,I call these Macbook inspired computers.First its Asus, then Leveno,Acer, now we have the Toshiba Portege Z835.This Ultrabook like others have a thin unibody design with some pretty decent hardware, though the processor is a lot to be desired which comes in at a weak 1.4GHz clock speed on two cores (Intel Core i3-2367M).
The Toshiba Z835 also includes 2GHz of memory that is embedded onto the motherboard, you can also expand 2GB of DDR3-133 of RAM with a total of 4GB's which indeed makes up for the weak processing power.
Other noted features on the Toshiba includes a 128GB mSATA SSD storage, read speed comes in at 180MB/sec and 70MB/sec write,it uses own controller and MLC NAND.
Probably a deal breaker for me is this Ultrabook has something that the Macbook Air lacks and that's connectivity,Apple for some reason rather sacrifice connectivity for slimmer design. If you observe the Toshiba Portege there is a pair of USB 2.0 ports,a single USB 3.0,headphone and microphone jack, and HDMI and a VGA output, there's even a dedicated Ethernet port. All of this at a price starting at $879.
