File-It-Under: Hardware on the docket By: D.F.Skin
This weeks "Hot Hardware" we take a close look at the Sapphire R9 Vapor-XOC, not surprising that on this website alone, graphic cards seem to be the most written about piece of hardware, and rightfully so. You have some pretty unique components crammed onto one board,or for the lack of the better term PCB (printed circuit board). The Sapphire R9 290 Vaopr-XOC has two things going on, it one has a pretty sophisticated cooling system on board the graphic card and two the price, yes the price,it graphic card that I'm profiling that doesn't run in the thousand dollar range,an high end graphic card that's somewhat in range of affordability.
About the R9 290 though,as I mentioned before the graphic card has a pretty unique cooling setup. It sports the Tri X Fan Cooler,2 ball bearing fans and it has a intelligent Fan Control that brings down the noise level on the graphic card.Probably the one drawback for having a graphic card with this type of cooling setup is the increase noise level coming from the fans.
The overall specs on the graphic card is pretty awesome, starting with 4GB of GDDR5 video memory, comes with a base clock that measures 1000 MHz, a 1030MHz boost clock, 5600MHz QDR memory speed. The price of the graphic card retails for $500 which for me is still a tad bit expensive considering you can purchase a nice decent graphic card for half the price. A graphic card of this magnitude with its awesome specs and $500 price range would be a considered to be a level below the super high-end graphic cards like the Sapphire Radeon R9 295X if you care to know that particular graphic card cost $1,500.
Still in all if you're looking for a nice graphic card for your next computer build but want to stay within a $500 budget, then I highly recommend the Sapphire Radeon R9 290 Vapor -X-OC . In fact I just purchased this card upon writing this post so surely expect a review in the coming weeks.
