Thanks To a Video The Xbox Series S is Confirmed By Microsoft
Like Sony, Microsoft is scheduled to launch the next generation gaming console in late 2020 ( confirmation launch date is Nov 10th). But a recent video leak has spoiled heighten anticipation, causing Microsoft to surrender to the videos leaks and officially announced full details of the console and $299 price point.
An industry insider who goes by the twitter handle @WalkingCat was the first to provide details on the Xbox Series S and a short video clip of the actual console and to spice things up even more, added another video clip. Interestingly, the second video is an upcoming commercial of the Xbox Series S, confirming an abundance of features.
The Xbox Series S is confirmed to be the smallest Xbox console ever; it will be 60 percent smaller than it's Xbox Series X console mate. The shrunken dimension will likely affect how the already beefy hardware will be cooled. Much like Sony's PS5, the Series S console will not have a digital disc drive.
Now in comparison to the Xbox Series X, the Series S variant will be a level down in overall performance, despite Microsoft stating that the console will offer 120fps gaming experience, up to a 1440p native resolution. Gamers will not be able to play games at 4K resolution like the Xbox Series X. Instead, the Series S will offer 4K scaling support for all games.
Though there will be a reduction in performance, the Xbox Series S hardware and features are very respectable, using an RDNA 2 based GPU. As confirmed by Microsoft, there will be Direct X Ray-Tracing support, Variable Rate Shading, and Variable Refresh Rate. When it comes storage, the Xbox Series S will still feature a custom NVMe PCIe 3.0 with Xbox Velocity Architecture; this will enable much game loading. The Xbox Series S storage capacity will get sliced in half from 1TB to 512GB. I think the console will offer a user external storage option.
Schedule launches for the Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X are expected to occur on November 10th. I want to add the Xbox Series X will retail for $499.
