Console News: Sony Releases a New Update for The PlayStation 5 Pro, PS5 and PSP Portal

This just in: Sony has released a significant system software update (Software Version 26.02-13.00.00) to improve PS5 Pro performance. The headline feature of the software update is PSSR 2.0 (acronym for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), a major refinement of Sony's AI upscaling technology. Let’s get right to it.

Key enhancements to the PS5 Pro are the following:

The PSSR 2.0 offers a major improvement in AI Upscaling that addresses early criticisms of PSSR, specifically reducing "shimmering and noise" artifacts in detail, such as foliage. Providing much better temporal stability, with sharper image reconstruction, especially at 60 fps in Performance Mode.

Manual Toggle can now forcibly enhance the PSSR model on compatible games that haven't been natively patched yet.

Expanded Game Support officially brings PSSR 2.0 support to several gaming titles, including: Monster Hunter Wilds, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Dragon Age: The Veguard, and Crimson Desert.

The Update Brings New Features for All PS5 Models

The Update is not exclusive to the PS5 Pro; it also includes several quality-of-life improvements for the standard PS5.

The Welcome Hub also gets a significant upgrade, with an all-new Showcase Mode that lets the background fill the entire screen while the console is idle. In addition, there is a Slideshow Mode that rotates images within the Media as a custom background.

Also added to the Update is  Unicode 17.0 support, offering the latest batch of emojis for messaging.

The PlayStation Portal also gets an update.

If you're currently using a PlayStation Portal with your PS5 Pro, you'll be glad to know Sony has also released an update that adds 1080p High Quality mode during gameplay. This will allow a higher bitrate during Remote gameplay, preserving visual fidelity in PS5 Pro PSSR tech.

Final Thought

The update from Sony finally fulfills the original promise of a “non-compromise” experience with the PS5 Pro, where players no longer have to choose between blurry 60 FPS and crisp 30 FPS. As more titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows receive and adapt to PSSR 2.0 patches, the Pro model consoles will finally establish themselves as the definitive way to play this generation’s most demanding games.
