Here's a look at CableMod revised 12VHPWR Angled Adapters

What's not to like about Nvidia's RTX series GPUs? It's powerful, with industry-leading ray-tracing, impressive compute features, and compact power cables. But with great power and impeccable features comes controversy. And there is certainly controversy with the RTX 40 series graphics card’s 12VHPWR connector faulty design.

As Nvidia graphics cards became more powerful, multiple 8-pin PSU cables were needed to power the GPU. Nvidia’s solution is to move the 12VHPWR connector.  It has 12 pins for power and four pins for side banding. This solution is supposed to be effective for any potent graphics card. However, the power cable would sometimes overheat, impeding performance and damage the GPU.

But there's always a solution to a problem of this magnitude. Companies such as CableMod have come up with 12VHPWR adapters that have an angled design—making it easy to manage cables around the graphics card. However, CableMod's V 1.0 version adapter had a glaring problem. According to some consumers’ complaints, the adapter would also overheat. In addition, the plug would wiggle upon installation. Quite possibly a contributing factor to the adapter overheating. This is a significant issue for anyone who purchased this device, which costs $40 which is not cheap for an adapter.

So CableMod heard the complaints and swiftly addressed the issue by releasing adapter version V 1.1. This time, the company integrated a CRM 5.1 female connector standard into the new 12V 2x6 design. The connector is compatible with all current 12VHPWR terminals; this time, it’s less prone to overheating.

CableMod also redesigned the male connector, which now has a tight, secured fit, eliminating any loose PCB connection.

The redesigned adapters are now available for consumer purchase. As an option, your choices are 90 and 180- degrees. The new adapters also come in various color schemes that match any PC aesthetics. The price of the adapters remains at $39.90. However, if you already purchased the V1. 0 version, CableMod offers a $40 coupon code. You can purchase a new adapter from the company’s online store for free. It's worth noting you'll have to pay for shipping.
